As of August 28, 2014, CAARR and CAADAC learned that the Institute for Credential Excellence (ICE) terminated Breining Institute's accreditation to certify counselors and as a result, California state government officials have withdrawn Breining's status as an approved AOD Counselor Certifying Organization (CO).
Breining Institute will have 5 days to officially notify all the RAS certified counselors and all those who are registered with RAS of their loss of state- approved status. Those individuals will then have 6 months to transfer to a different CO. If they don't transfer within 6 months, they will lose their certification. All registrants who transfer within 6 months will keep all their education and work experience hours when they transfer.
CAARR's website (www.caarr.org) , already has certification and registration transfer information posted. It's easy, and it's free. Every RAS certified counselor is eligible to transfer their certification to CAS without re-testing, and within a few weeks when CCAPP is officially launched, it will automatically become a CCAPP certification.
RAS Certified applicants will have your fee waived.
